Much of what you see advertised here and there is mostly a scam as far as things you can buy to improve mileage. Low friction lubricants (synthetic oils) can help but the difference is marginal. The key is reduced speed, gentle acceleration, proper tire inflation, and keep the vehicle in good tune. There are other tricks like over-inflating tires and such but the difference again is not worth the increased wear on the tires and detriment to handling or safety. To give an idea of what can be done with driving technique here's a story...
My friend owns a trucking company. As you know diesel is at the highest price ever right now and it is killing the independent truckers. He has a Peterbilt 379 extended hood truck with a 3406 425 hp Cat engine. The truck was averaging 5.2-5.5 mpg with the hired driver. My friend took a trip and drove the truck by never exceeding the peak torque rpm of the engine (1300 rpm). In high gear the truck cruised at 63 mph at that rpm. By shifting early when accelerating and keeping the engine at it's peak torque he attained 6.59 mpg. That is a huge increase when economy is that low. The truck goes 120,000 miles per year on average and at 5.5 mpg would burn 21,818 gallons at $4.25 a gal. totals $92,726. The way he drove it getting 6.59 he saved $15,376 per year. No he is not burning up the highway at 75 mph but he has saved enough $ to make up for it.
Moral drive slower and easier.

lol, maybe they re-impose those 55mph limits on the highways again! Might not be a bad idea!
