I'm curious how peoples expectations of retirement have shifted with the recent drop in the market?
I'm already down 40% on the year!
Retirement is still 25+ years away for me, but I don't find myself as optimistic as I was when I first graduated college.

I'm already way behind on retirement (at age 54) and just hoping to be OK. On the plus side, I'm receiving a 100k distribution (from a prior divorce) very soon and I get to invest at sale prices (if the total American economy doesn't tank forever).

This is definately a great opportunity to buy stocks off their highs!

My view has become a bit less optimistic, but it's due more to getting a more realistic view, not the current travails of the market.

My Mom is going to retire 5 years from now, and like you, she is not that optimistic as well. Been thinking of buying a stock on the market, but with the economy right now, well, she will just better think of another idea on how she will spend the retirement money she'll receive.
